ALL ABOUT TOE-JOE...
A Little Bit of his Background...

Toes is a German Shepherd, Stabyhoun cross male. Sometimes called Staby Shepherds... Stabyhoun are a very rare breed from the Netherlands, more specifically a place called Fryslan, so if you like Friesian horses, this is a Friesian dog! Stabyhoun actually translates into Stand by me dog - which really tells you how loyal these guys are! They do live up to their name. The ad that started it all...Ok I need to start posting this everywhere - so please share as this sweetheart deserves a good home! Do you like Black Labs? So do we! But this guy is NOT a black lab - he sure looks like one thou! Toes is an 8 month old German Shepherd Stabyhoun cross male. I like to call them Staby Shepherds (everyone else crosses and makes up new breeds why can't I?) I own Toes parents and I owned his Grandparents. So we know his history. He is up to date on all his vaccinations and is microchipped. Toes had been adopted to a home on the island but they had to return him. (Continue reading for details) So this poor baby is looking for his new forever home. Stabyhouns are a very rare breed from the Netherlands, more specificaly a place called Fryslan, so if you like Friesian horses, here is your chance at a Friesian dog! Stabyhoun actually translates into Stand by me dog - which really tells you how loyal these guys are! They do live up to their name. Toes is no exception, he is very sweet and cuddly. Loves people, especially kids. He's good with other dogs, cats and even horses. No sign of aggression at all and no desire to be Alpha so if other dogs r around he immediately lets them be in charge. He's very loyal, just a little shadow. ( You will never pee along again! He's like a 4 legged toddler - just feel the love!) Toes is very patient and gentle. His 5 week old baby brother can climb all over him and try and play fight him and he's sooo good with him. It's very sweet to watch. (Yes I have video!) So here is the story on Toes/Joe. First off I named him Toes and his last family named him Joe. Lol so that's the name thing lol Toes was adopted out to a young lady on the island who messaged me and said he wasn't working out and she needed to return him. We picked him up from a Ferry Terminal that is 1hr 20min from my house. He was great on the drive home. He was nervous and unsure why his person. Was not with him but he still lay down and had a nap. I was told he gets car sick so I was prepared for that. But he never vomited in my truck. We made two stops along the way and when we got out of the truck he threw up a bit but it was like he waited to get out. I know puppies grow out of car sickness a lot of times so it may just be something he will grow out of or.maybe he was fed before.they traveled with him, I don't know. My personal experience was no issues with travel. He's very loyal. He just wants to be a shadow. Just glued to your side and wants all the attention. I have kids and dogs and he's great with both. His last home had kids and dogs and cats and horses and I was told he was good with all of them too He loves going for walks and hikes but his true passion is being a couch potato I have him outside playing with the other dogs all day and he sleeps in my room at night. Other then waking me up because he wants to cuddle he's great lol We have had no accidents in the house. My house is a disaster and he doesn't try to chew up anything or destroy stuff the way puppies do the first year or two He's a very sweet great dog. Now why was he given up/the negative He was on a Hobby farm and he liked to chase and kill the chickens. I fully believe this can be trained out as I've had German Shepherd dogs work in the chicken Barns when I was younger - and for a puppy, he's probably thinking they are the funnest squeaky toys ever! But obviously no one wants to have dead chickens all over the place. He is a double working line breed. So that is something to keep in mind. Stabyhouns are soft mouth retrievers, pointers, mole hunters ect. And German Shepherds are a well known working breed. He is very smart and he just wants his own person he can follow around and be with. So I'd say he's a perfect dog for anyone without chickens lol Or someone with chickens but the knowledge/experience to train him to stay away from the chickens Feel free to pm me if you are Interested in this boy or have any questions on him Both his parents are here to view/meet And as always a contract on him is mandatory An Earlier AdMeet Toes aka Joe Toes is an almost 8 month old German Shepherd Stabyhoun cross male. That job can be entertaining and walking with the kids, or weekly hikes with his person, going swimming at the beach ect. Doesn't have to be anything big but he will need daily exercise. So I'd say he's a perfect dog for anyone without chickens lol Or someone with chickens but the knowledge/experience to train him to stay away from the chickens I'll add info as I think about it Feel free to pm me if you are Interested in this boy or have any questions on him Both his parents are here to view/meet And as always a contract on him I'd mandatory |

TRAINING TOES
SUSAN GARRETT'S DogsThat (Recallers)
Has your dog ever experienced barrier frustration? The frustration can escalate to aggression, and something like fence running can turn into fence fighting. The leash being on a dog can result in restraint frustration as the lead creates a barrier. Or perhaps your dog barks at other dogs when in the car? When our dogs are frustrated, they are expressing an emotion and we cannot ignore their excitement or anxiety. We can help our dog by creating a different emotional response.
In the episode you'll hear:
• About noticing the early signs of anxiety or frustration.
• How fence running can quickly escalate to fighting.
• Why arousal can turn to redlining and why we should care.
• What we don’t want our dogs to rehearse.
• How fence fighting can have consequences away from the barrier.
• Being aware of everyone’s safety around dogs who have pent up emotion.
• Why a redlining dog could redirect onto another dog, child, or adult.
• The easiest way to stop barrier aggression.
• Why to focus on the trigger to help dogs with their emotional response.
• How to change your dog’s emotional state around triggers.
• Strategies to help fence fighting dogs.
• Why management is a big part of dog training to prevent rehearsals.
• How using a head halter will help you keep your dog under threshold.
• The reason to use distance to help your dog with triggers.
• Games you can play that will help overcome barrier frustration.
• Why the words “Winners Circle!” come with treats for your dog.
• How to achieve the goal of your dog seeing a trigger and orientating to you.
